Casings and walls. - In a furnace combustion chamber having double walls between which external cooling air is circulated, the inner wall comprises a skeleton framework of air or water circulating tubes 1 between and around which recessed bricks 4 are laid in courses without cement so that the brickwork presents on its inner surface a substantially gastight wall and its outer surface provides openings allowing the air circulating in the space 6 between the brickwork and a steel outer casing 5 to pass around substantially the whole of the outer surface of the tubes. The tubes are preferably slightly outwardly inclined and smaller in diameter than. the width of the recesses so as to have only line contact with the brickwork.
