Vertical boilers.-In a vertical boiler having cross water-tubes in the fire-box, pairs of tube groups b, c, each containing preferably four tubes, are so ararranged that the axes of any one pairs of groups cross at an angle the axes of the pair of groups above or below, while the handholes e, f affording access to the tubes are so arranged that the hand-hole for one group of any pair is at the opposite side to the handhole of the other group of the pair.
