Abstract

189,419. Gradl, J. Nov. 22, 1921, [Convention date]. Addition to 184,800. Manures.-Coal or lignite, used for making manure by admixture with catalysts or oxidizing agents, as described in the parent Specification and in Specification 185,729, is prepared for such use by treatments which increase the power of absorbing water. This may be effected by heating the coal or lignite to temperatures below the sintering point, or by treatment with solvents, acids, such as sulphuric or acetic acid, alkalies or superheated vapours. Acids or substances having an acid reaction may be used as additional ingredients in manures made as described in the above-mentioned Specification. Copper salts, with or without ammonium salts, or other substances that contain or give off ammonia, may be used as catalysts in these manures. In one example, steamed coal, manganese dioxide and acetic acid are used as ingredients of a manure; in another example, steamed lignite, acetic acid and copper acetate. In other examples described in the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) the ingredients are powdered peat, ammonium nitrate, raw phosphate and acetic acid, or " humuslignite," copper sulphate, ammonium nitrate and commercial ammonia. These latter examples are not comprised in the Specification as accepted.
