Abstract

Starting.-In a device for starting Diesel or semi-Diesel engines in either direction, comprising a. valve 16 controlling the admission of compressed. air, steam, or other gas to the cylinders and actuated by Stephenson linkage gear, the lifting link 9 is in duplicate on opposite sides cf a link 1 and is mounted at its ends on pins 10 that extend laterally from both sides of the link 1 and the adjusting-lever 11. In the form shown, the lever 11 is pivoted upon a bracket 12 on one of the standards 13. A block or die 14 in the link 1 is connected to the valve spindle 15 and the valve 16 is reciprocated in a valve chamber 17 having an inlet 21 for compressed air and outlets 22, 23 Leading respectively to the two ends of an engine cylinder. The link 1 is actuated from eccentrics 6, 7 through connecting- rods 2, 3.
