Abstract

Brakes, arrangement and disposition of; controlling different functions by same handle or lever; flexible transmitters.-Relates to motor vehicles of the Ford type in which the clutch and the brakes on the rear wheels are operated by the same hand lever. The necessary lost motion in the actuation of the brake is provided for by employing a cable 20 as the connecting means between the hand lever 12 and the cam shaft 23 of the brake instead of a rigid connecting rod and by the use of flat cams 22 for the brake segments, instead of the usual oval cams. Adjusting screw thimbles 21 are provided on the cables. The cam shaft is also extended towards the centre line of the vehicle where is is supported in an additional bearing 24. This enables a longer actuating-arm to be provided on the shaft and also keeps the cable 20 clear of the radius rods 3.
