Abstract

186,974. Marshall, F. D. June 13, 1921. Automatic discharge apparatus, rotary; charging and discharging.-Rotary driers, retorts, &c. are charged and discharged by rotary valves mounted on the retort at both its inlet and outlet ends, the valves being intermittingly actuated automatically during the rotation of the retort by means independent of the retort so as to seal the retort during the charging and discharging operations. As shown, the material in the hopper m, Figs. 1 and 2, is discharged by the valve n, which is rotated by a pulley from the retort, so as to fall into the spouts c<1> of the valve-casings c secured to the retort, the valves b being rotated through pinions h mounted on the valve-spindles d, engaging intermittingly with adjustable fixed racks j. The valve-spindles are made in two parts which may be connected by clutches f. The retort is provided at its discharge end with rotary valves b, Fig. 4, discharging into a sealing-chamber o secured to the retort and having a discharge valve b. The valves on the retort and chamber are actuated intermittingly by pinions engaging with fixed racks j.
