Abstract
323,523. White, A. E., (International Bitumenoil Corporation). July 30, 1928. Rotary furnaces; cooling discharged materials.-In a continuous distillation process an inclined rotary retort 3 is charged from a hopper 12 by a piston 14, and has lifters 18 for agitating the material during its passage through the retort to the outlet 19 where it is discharged on to an endless conveyer 85 in a water cooled chamber 80. The retort is heated by burners 62 which deliver to below plates 64, walls 7 forming different heating zones, and these zones are maintained by passing cold air through ducts 7<a>. Combustion products may be led from the stack 8 through a valved pipe 113 to a pipe 27 extending into the retort, and air may be admitted to this pipe through a valved inlet 115, while at the discharge end steam may be admitted through a pipe 117.
