Abstract

23,126. Niewerth, H. Nov. 3. Air supply, heating; air or other gas heating furnaces; waste gases and waste heat, utilizing.- Air for blast and other furnaces, or air or gases for other purposes, are heated by means of hot sand in a "furnace" or heating-chamber shown in section in Fig. 2. The chamber A is divided by double partitions e, f, which are slotted at e<1>, f<1>. Sand from a hopper B passes through the slots, and gradually falls from partition to partition. Combustion products from a furnace are introduced through a pipe J, and circulate between the upper partitions to the exit pipe K, so heating the falling sand. Air which is to be heated is introduced through a pipe E, and similarly circulates between the lower partitions to the exit pipe H, so as to abstract the heat from the falling sand. The sand may be heated in a separate furnace.
