Abstract

186,273. Tondeur, R. Dec. 16, 1921. Expanding-pulleys; reversing-gearing.-Comprises reversing-gearing for motor-vehicles having expanding-pulley variable-speed gearing, an auxiliary pulley being forced between the flanges of the expanding-pulley, so that (a) it is driven therefrom in a reverse direction, (b) the expanding-pulley is opened out until the belt runs on the loose bottom ring, and (c) the auxiliary-pulley bears against and drives the belt. The expanding-pulley 2 is mounted on a shaft driven through chain-gear 13, and its flanges are pressed together by a centrifugal governor 10 against the action of a spring 9. An auxiliary pulley 14 has its outer faces bevelled to fit the inner flanges of the expanding pulley, and is carried by an arm 16 pivoted to another arm 18 on a shaft 19 operated by a pedal 25, a spring 26 also connecting the arms 16, 18. Thus when the pedal is depressed the pulley 14 is forced from the position shown in Fig. 1 to that shown in Figs. 2 and 3 with the result stated above.
