Abstract
185,451. Jewell, A. C. April 28, 1921. Evaporators and condensers in structural combination.-Apparatus for distilling water &c. comprises a condenser having air and water cooled surfaces, and consisting of a central vapour chamber 9, an annular air chamber 3, an annular vapour chamber 12, and an enclosed water chamber 2. Inlets 5 and outlets 6, 7, permit an upward movement of air through the air chamber. The vapours generated by a steam coil 8 pass up the interior 9 of the air chamber 3, through a steam-separator 10, 11, down between the air and water chambers, and finally through a cooler 15. The water chamber 2 may be supplied directly by a pipe 17, and also by a pipe 18 from the cooler. Some of the overflow passing down a pipe 19 may be admitted by a float valve 25<a> to the still. An aerator 24 delivers air through a pipe 25 to the lower part of the still.
