Abstract

Surface condensers; distilling water.-In a combined feedwater heater and condenser for obtaining fresh water on board ship the tubes of the condenser are divided into two groups, D, C communicating with separate headers so that part of the sea water passed through the tubes C is by-passed through the tubes D to preheat it before entering the evaporator as feed-water. The height of the condensate in the condenser is adjustable by a weir, Fig. 4, comprising an openended cylinder p<5> sliding in a sleeve p<4> and adjustable by a screwed spindle p<9>.
