Abstract

184,286. Colman, T. B. May 17, 1921. Locks, revolving-barrel; lock mechanism, tumbler-type.-In a lock having a racked bolt operated by a pinion, axial insertion of a key releases a tumbler from engagement with the bolt and rotation of the key turns the pinion to operate the bolt. The key may move the tumble through the intermediary of an axially slidable sleeve as shown. The key 9 has bits 17 which pass down slots 12<1> in the sleeve 12 and depress levers 19, pivoted to the sleeve casing 11, out of recesses 18 in the sleeve. Further pressure of the key after insertion can then move the sleeve 12 axially, the end of the key pressing the bevelled nose of the sleeve forwards to depress the tumbler 15 by means of its arm 14 and free the bolt 3. The cross pin 7 on the spindle 6 of the pinion 5 is then. at the end of the slot 8 in the key so that rotationof the key turns the pinion to operate the bolt-
