Abstract
183,479. Lymn, A. H. July 20, 1922. Tubes, smoke.- Short, thin ferrules for protecting the ends of smoke-tubes are made of refractory material such as firebrick or fire-clay. The exposed surfaces of the ferrules are preferably glazed. The ferrule n is moulded in position, a mould a being covered with plastic refractory material and forced into the end of a smoke-tube o. The mould is burnt away by the furnace gases. The refractory material may contain salts forming a glaze when the ferrule is heated. The beading of the ferrule may taper so as to form a cutting-edge in the direction of the draught.
