Abstract

183,358. Veulle, F. H. de. July 29, 1921. Spray carburettors of the type in which rich mixture is admitted to the main air stream where it is usually controlled by the throttle valve have, in combination with the rich mixture passage, a by-pass around the throttle valve, an air vent and a sliding valve independent of the throttle valve adapted (1) to open or close the by-pass, (2) to place the air vent in variable communication with the rich mixture passage, (3) to open or close the passage. The rich mixture passage B is traversed by a ported sleeve C enclosing a spring-loaded valve D of dumb-bell shape actuated by a Bowden wire K. Ports C' in the lower end of the sleeve lead to an annular chamber E from which the by-pass F is supplied. In the lowest position of the valve, the by-pass and passage B are open; as the valve is raised, the by-pass is cut off and subsequently, as shown in Fig. 3, an air vent G is put into communication with the passage B. Further movement cuts off all the passages and air alone may then be admitted to the engine through the main throttle valve.
