Abstract

420,384. Spray carburetters. BROWN, C., 19, Trinity Road, Birchfields, and AMAL, Ltd., Holford Works, Perry Bar, both in Birmingham. May 31, 1933, No. 15766. [Class 7 (iii)] Relates mainly to a valve device to control fuel nozzles and associated air passages, adapted to form mixtures for starting and running at low and intermediate speeds. A main jet 8, Figs. 1, 4, controlled by a needle valve 8<a>, receives fuel from a float chamber through ports 9 and discharges it into a well 11 from which a nozzle tube 12 issues into a choke tube 13. The well 11 is open to atmosphere and communicates through a duct 15 and nozzle 17 with the interior 26 of a rotatable or slidable valve 27. Within this valve are a rich mixture passage 18 for starting, a slow running nozzle 19 and an intermediate nozzle 20. Auxiliary air may be admitted to the valve interior through a slot 29, Fig. 3, and also through a passage 22, 23 adapted to be controlled by a screwed plug 24. The annular chamber within the valve extends to about three-quarters of its circumference the remainder consisting of a metal blank portion 28. The valve is rotatable by an arm 32 and its movement in either direction is limited. At starting, the valve occupies the position shown in Fig. 3, the auxiliary air through 23 being cut off and the passages 18, 19 in action. For starting and low speed running, the valve is moved to uncover the port 23, the slot 29 and the starting passage being covered and mixture being admitted through nozzle 19. When the main throttle is opened slightly, the nozzle 20 comes into action. In a modification, the main jet is uncontrolled, and the main nozzle communicates with the well through transverse bores in its wall.
