Abstract

734,297. Carburetters. THUEMMEL, E. Nov. 17, 1952 [Nov. 17, 1951], No. 28893/52. Class 7(3). A carburetter has an atomising jet adjacent the edge of an opening leading to the engine, an apertured throttle valve moving across the opening to open and close the same, and adjacent the nozzle a baffle member between which and the carburetter casing the throttle valve moves whereby as the aperture in the valve passes into and through the space between the baffle and casing during the opening and closing movements the direction of the air stream relative to the jet is varied to vary the suction created at the jet and thus vary the amount of fuel drawn therefrom. As shown a float chamber 2 is located in the induction passage 1. Mixture formed by air which enters at 22 and fuel from a nozzle 4 passes to the engine through an opening 5 which is controlled by means of a shutter 6 operated by a Bowden cable. When the shutter is closed air can flow between the casing and a baffle 8 to reduce the suction on the nozzle 4. The shutter includes preferably at the top a slow running slot 12. An air passage 14 leads into the passage 9 and bearings 16 for the shutter 6 by which it turns on a stud 15 extend beyond the stud 15 and control additional air by covering or uncovering the passage 14. When the shutter is opened the passage 14 is gradually closed. A cover 21 is detachably held by springs snapped on to it and when it is removed the float chamber can be removed without the use of a tool. The float may be depressed by a plunger 17 which also closes the vent hole 19.
