Abstract

745,791. Carburetters. SOLEX. March 30, 1954 [May 21, 1953], No. 9309/54. Class 7(3) A carburetter is provided with means capable of automatically limiting to a value lower than the maximum value thereof the opening of the throttle valve means as long as the engine fed by this carburreter is running at speeds below a predetermined value. The object of the invention is to obtain higher power at low and medium speeds. Tests show that with the throttle valve in the maximum open position the powers obtained for medium and low engine speeds are lower than those obtained with the throttle valve slightly closed. The means which limit the opening of the throttle valve are operated by suction in the induction pipe, for instance in the throat of the venturi 4. As shown when the engine speed is below a predetermined value a stop 14 limits the opening of the throttle to a selected value lower than the maximum. When the speed increases sufficiently the suction on the diaphragm 15 withdraws the stop 14 and if the throttle. pedal has been fully depressed a spring 13 moves the throttle to its fully open position. The "limited maximum opening" of the throttle valve is determined by tracing power curves with the throttle fully opened and with the throttle opening slightly smaller than the maximum. The disc 7 may be provided with two or more projections disposed in stepped fashion, thus providing two or more limited maximum openings.
