Abstract

182,801. Joly, V. July 7, 1921, [Convention date]. Spray carburettors. -The supply of mixture and of additional air is regulated by a member actuated by the engine suction. The casing 1 comprises a cylinder 5 in which slides a piston 4, the tubular rod 2 of which controls the mixture and carries an additional air valve 3. The member 2 is ported at 15 and slides over a central member 10, which is ported at 14, carries a fuel nozzle 13 at a constricted part of a chamber 12 therein, and is adjustable by means of a lever 11 for altitude and temperature changes. The spaces A, C above and below the piston 4 com. municate through conduits 6, 7 respectively with the chambers B, D on the air inlet and engine sides respectively of the throttle valve 8. When the valve 8 is closed, the piston 4 and member 2 are lowered and the ports 15 and valve 3 are closed. As the valve 8 is opened the suction effects on the upper and lower faces of the piston 4 become more nearly equal, and the piston and member 2 are raised by the atmospheric thrust on the valve 3 to admit more mixture and additional air. If the member 2 rises too far, suction is reduced in the region B and space A and the greater suction through conduit 7 causes the piston 4 and member 2 to descend. The same effect is produced each time the valve 8 is moved or when the engine suction varies. The chamber 12 may be supplied with hot air.
