Abstract

459,490. Spray carburetters. SOC. ANON. SOLEX, 190, Avenue du Neuilly, Neuilly-sur-Seine, France. July 20, 1936, No. 20064. Convention date, Oct. 8, 1935. [Class 7 (iii)] A control member for putting into and out of action an auxiliary starting carburetter and for modifying the richness of the mixture supplied thereby, the position of the member depending upon the variable viscosity of a mass subjected to engine temperature, simultaneously controls by its displacements at least one passage for the combustible mixture and at least one air inlet to diminish the quantity of mixture delivered by the carburetter in proportion as the engine temperature rises. The delivery tube 10 from a starting carburetter 9 such as that described in Specification 357,310, leads to a chamber 13 communicating by a passage 14 with the induction pipe 1 downstream of the throttle 2. The chamber 13 houses a valve such as a piston 16 adapted in its closed position to close the passage 14 and in its open position to open thereto an air inlet 15 and superposed passages 11, 12 connecting the delivery tube 10 to the chamber 13. The opening movement is effected manually &c. and is rapid but closure takes place under the action of a spring 24 in a dashpot 21 containing a piston 18 connected to the piston valve 16. Flap valves 20 in the piston 18 permit rapid downward movement thereof and a calibrated byepass 22, 23 delays the return movement to a degree varied by the viscosity of the fluid in the dashpot which is disposed adjacent the engine to respond to its temperature. By forming the higher passage 12 of less diameter than the passage 11, the rising piston valve 16 first cuts off the larger mixture supply, then cuts down the air supply through the inlet 15 and finally closes the passage 14, there being corresponding diminution in the suction applied to the starting carburetter 9.
