A centrifugal drying- machine for coal or other granular material has a conical shell A of unperforated metal secured to a spider B on the shaft C, and a cylindrical shell G secured to the conical part A by angle-irons H, I and bolts J. A circular slit M is left between the shells A, G, and this may be adjusted to suit the grade of material employed by varying the number or thickness of the spacing-washers K. A regulated supply of material passes through the shoot S, which can swivel around the edge T of the casing and be fixed by a bolt V on the quadrant U. A cleaning-door 0 is provided in the casing, and a partition P is arranged to form two outlets, one Q, for the dried coal which escapes from the cylindrical shell G, the other, R, for the water or sludge which escapes through the circular slit M. Compressed air supplied through the nozzle Y is used when necessary to clear the slit M.
