Abstract

22,251. Waddington, J. S. Sept. 26. Rotary filters. - Liquids, such as water and grease, are removed from sewage by passing it through a rotary perforated drum 2, lined internally with felt or other fabric and enclosed in a cistern 1, and impelling the liquids through the drum 2 by jets 10 of steam from a pipe.9. The expelled liquids pass away by pipes 11 to a trough 12, and the solid material passes from the drum to a hopper 13 and thence by swing doors 14 to a drying-chamber 16, where the material is dried upon heated travelling bands 15. If the sewage contains a large proportion of liquid, some of the latter may be removed by passing the sewage through a perforated drum 19 lined with felt &c. and injecting compressed air through a pipe 20 before the material passes by a pipe 5 to the drum 2. The material may be moved forward to the drum 2 by a jet of steam or compressed air through the pipe S.
