Abstract

340,940. Cleaning hides. HERTZSCH, P., 2, Promenadenweg, Markranstadt, near Leipsic, Germany. Oct. 1, 1929, No. 29723. [Class 138 (i).] Hides are cleaned by the simultaneous action of heat, agitation and suction. A drum a with a metal wall b and wooden heads c, d has hollow journals e, f mounted in bearings g, h, the journal e being connected through a stuffing-box t with an air inlet pipe k fitted with a regulating valve rand the journal f being connected with a suction pump through a pipe i and stuffing-box t<1>. The drum is provided with wooden boards or ribs p projecting radially from the inner wall to agitate the hides and is heated by a heater m which also heats the lower part n of the air inlet pipe. The drum is rotated by suitable mechanism connected to the pulley or gear wheel l and the pressure in the drum is indicated by the manometer s. Fine sand, chips of wood &c. may be introduced with the hides through the manhole o to assist the cleaning action, screens q being provided over the air pipes to prevent clogging.
