Application filed March 3, 1921.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, JnNs WILLIAM EcrnIUs'lELLINc, a subject of the King of Norway, residing at Christiania, Norway, have invented certain new and useful Improvemen-ts in Revolving Suction-Strainers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the 1nvention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention has for its object a revolving suction strainer suitable for use in mechanical and chemical wood 4 pulp mills, paper factories as well as in other industries.
An important feature of the present strainer as compared with known types of revolving suction strainers consists therein that the portion of the strainer which above the level of the liquid in which the strainer revolves is kept covered by an endless belt of a tightmaterial which prevents air from being sucked into t e interior of the strainer at this portion of the strainer surface.
lln addition to this feature the strainer is suitably so arranged that the substantial portion of the working surface of the strainer is maintained above the level of the liquid. 1
An embodiment of this invention is illustraited in the accompanying drawing in which Figure 1 is a transverse sectional view of the strainer.
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of nions of the drum are situated above the j edge of the vat 5 so that only a minor part of the strainer surface 1 is immerged in the liquid. An endless belt of oiled canvas (hospital canvas) or other-water tight material passes over rollers 6, 7, 8 and rests with its lower run upon the top portion of the I strainer. In addition to the endless beltof watertight material an endless belt of'felt may be arranged upon which the pulp is talren up from the strainer surface. in this:

result in squeezing water out of the pulp layer between the belt and the strainer surface. T he water will flow through openings 9 in the wall of the drum and into the sucti on chamber 11 partitioned in the drum by a transverse wall 10, and from the chamber 11 the water is sucked out through the suction pipe 13 with downwardly directed orifice 12. The pipe 13 extends through the hollow trunnion 3 of the drum, and a studing box. This pipe does not rotate with the drum. To prevent air from being sucked in at that portion of the strainer surface, which is situated between the roller 6 and the level of the liquid a slide 14 is arranged, which is pressed against the wall of the suction chamber by means of a spring 15. The slide is hinged to a stationary'bar 16 con: nected to the pipe 13.
The apparatus may be employed in connection with any kindof suspensions from which it is desired to remove the suspended particles.
ll claim 1. A suction strainer comprising a revolving strainer drum with its straining surface arranged to be partially erged in liquid and non-straining means over a substantial portion of the straining surface not immerged.
2. A suction strainer comprising a revolving drum with its straining surface partially immersed in liquid and an endless belt of d. A suction strainer according to claim 1, meansto preventair from being sucked into the interior of the strainer drum through such portions at the strainer surtill lltl) face which are not covered by the tight belt nor coated with pulp.
5. A suction strainer according to claim 1 means to prevent air from being sucked into the interior of the strainer drum through such portions at the strainer surface which are not covered by the tight belt nor coated with pulp, said means comprising a slide mounted in the interior of the drum.
6. A suction strainer comprising a revolving strainer drum with its straining surface arranged to be partially immerged in liquid,
Let/7,765
a non-straining means covering a substantial exterior portion or the drum and means within the drum to prevent straining action of said surface between the surface of the liquid and the first mentioned means.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention, 1 have signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
. JENS WELLIAM IEGIDHUS Ell-1N6, Witnesses: 1 MAGAN BRIGGE, GULBORG GULBRANDSEN.
