Supporting.-A supporting and connecting device for electric fixtures comprises a receptacle 13 positioned in a recess and having a plate 18 flush with the surface on which the fixture is to be supported and a connecting member 15 carrying contact blades 16 and mechanical fastening members 19 adapted to be passed through openings in the plate 18 and engaged with the rear of the plate. The contact blades 16 which are provided with binding screws 22 for connection with the free. ends of the leads from the fixture stem 11 are mounted on an insulating block 21 which is slidably mounted between lugs 20 on the member 15 to permit vertical movement of the latter member in engaging the fastening elements 19. To prevent accidental displacement of the member 15, bent leaf springs 24 bearing on the members 19 are provided between the receptacle 13 and the plate 18. The member 15 may be formed with a tongue, 27 for engagement with a bar 26 disposed interiorly of the canopy 12 for supporting the fixture, or the latter may be permanently connected to the member 15 by screws.
