Supporting.-In a supporting and connecting device for electric fittings, the outlet box 10, within which is disposed a receptacle 11 carrying contact sockets, is covered by a plate 13 which has projections 26 adapted to engage hooks 17 formed in the walls of a cup 15 which carries the plug 16 carrying the contact blades 30 and, at its lower end, a screwed 'bush 25 adapted to receive the stem of the fitting. The plug 16 is secured within the cup 15 by inturned projections 27 on the latter engaging arcuate slots 28 on the plug so as to permit the part rotation of the cup necessary to engage the hooks 17. To prevent disengagement, the hooks have downward projections 20 which in the assembled position are accommodated in corresponding recesses formed in the projections 26 on the plate 13 and are resiliently held therein by reason of a spring 22 disposed between the plug 16 and the cup, but are positively locked after assembly by screwing a cover 23 over the bush 25 so that its upper end abuts against the plate 13. The plate is secured to the outlet box by screws 14 engaging key-hole slots in the former, the whole being covered by a member 41 or, alternatively, by a canopy 42 screwing directly over the bush 25 or, according to a modification, being secured in position by a second member screwing on to the bush. In a further modification the receptacle 11 is disposed exteriorly of the outlet box, being carried on a spider secured to the box, the cup 15 being secured to the spider by fastening arrangements similar to those described, and the canopy is adapted to engage bayonet-fashion the corners of the rectangular covering plate for the outlet box.
