Abstract
177,798. Fallimento Soc. Anon. Manifattura L. Duca, (Successors of Soc. Anon. Manifattura L. Duca). March 31, 1921, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Act]. Clutches, ratchet.-Comprises a device for automatically sliding a pinion on a driving shaft into mesh with a driven toothed gear and effecting positive clutch engagement with the shaft at the end of the axial motion. As applied to starting devices for explosion engines, the pinion slides out of mesh when the engine takes up the drive and the starting motor is stopped. In the form shown a disc 4 keyed on the shaft of the starting motor drives a shaft 1 through a spring coupling 3. A loose sleeve 5 on the shaft 1 is pressed by a spring 8 into frictional engagement with an annular flat face 9 on a clutch member 10 secured to the shaft. On the sleeve- 5 is formed a helical groove 6 in which engages a ball 13 housed in an extension 14 of an otherwise loose toothed pinion 12, the ball being held in position by a screwed sleeve 15. On rotation of the shaft 1 the pinion 12 moves axially into mesh with the driven gear (not shown), being clutched to the shaft at the end of its axial movement by engagement of ratchet shaped teeth 17 thereon with corresponding teeth 11 on theclutch member 10.
