Abstract
176,524. South Metropolitan Gas Co., and Chandler, D. Dec. 10, 1920. Fluid-actuated valves. - A regulating-device for regulating the flow of gas to a testing-instrument in accordance with the pressure and temperature of the atmosphere and the density of the gas comprises a valve actuated by an aneroid capsule or equivalent vessel and a liquidsealed bell or diaphragm subject to the head of gas in a long pipe or a weighing vessel through which the gas is passed. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the regulating-valve 14 is connected bv a link 15 to a weigh-beam 3 mounted on a standard 2 and provided with a vessel 4, through which gas admitted by a port 7 and pipe 8 flows to an outlet 5. The aneroid capsule 8 is connected to a bar 9 carried by the other arm of the weigh-beam and to a similar bar 10 secured to the base, a traversing-screw 11 being provided whereby the position of the capsule can be adjusted. In a modification, the vessel 4 is replaced by a liquid sealed bell subject to the head of gas in a long pipe. The capsule may be replaced by a liquid sealed bell. In a further modification botn capsule and bell are directly connected to the valve member.
