Abstract

Pressure-regulating valves; fluid actuating- mechanism.-A valve device-actuated by liquid seated bells to regulate the relative pressures of two fluids is so arranged that an increase in the pressure of one fluid produces a proportionate but greater increase in the pressure of the other fluid, and the apparatus is so loaded that the ratio of the two pressures varies as the pressures are increased. In the form shown in Fig. 1, a double beat valve h controlling the flow of air is actuated by a double bell a having inner and outer flanges a', a<2> dipping into seals b, c. Gas under pressure admitted to the upper part of the casing acts on the larger bell, while air pressure acts on the smaller bell, the space between the two flanges being open to atmosphere. In a modification, the gas and air act on separate bells of equal area coupled together by a lever having an adjustable fulcrum. The position of the fulcrum may be automatically varied by the gas pressure.
