Abstract
684,554. Fluid-actuated valves. GARRETT CORPORATION. Feb. 13, 1948 [April 23, 1945], No. 4316/48. Class 135. Apparatus for regulating the mass flow of fluid into an enclosure such as the pressurised aircraft cabin 10 comprises a spill valve member 16 located in a supply duct 7 between a source of pressure such as the supercharger 5 and the enclosure and biased in the closing direction for instance by a spring 35, movable balancing member such as the diaphragm 18 connected to the spill valve whereby it is balanced as regards both pressure internally and externally of the duct, and differential pressure responsive means such as the diaphragm 25 for operating the valve, such means being under the control of means, such as the venturi 9 for measuring the mass rate of fluid flow. The venturi 9 is located downstream of the spill valve and a cooler 8 is arranged between the venturi and the spill valve. The valve plate 16 co-operates with a seat 51 round a vent port 15 and is connected by a stem 17 to a diaphragm 18, the upper side of which is open to the ambient atmospheric pressure through a port 24. The stem 17 has an extension 28 connected to the diaphragm 25. The latter is clamped between casing sections 19, 21 and exposed on its upper and lower sides respectively to the pressures at the inlet and throat of the venturi 9. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91, comprises also the subject-matter of Specification 684,589. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
