Valves controlled by pilot or relay valves.-A valve device for delivering a predetermined quantity of water comprises a main valve actuated by water pressure acting in a piston under the control of an auxiliary valve opened by hand and retained open by a catch subsequently released by a wheel or turbine acting through worm gearing and a cam. The main valve 27 is fitted with a leather face 29 secured in position by a screw 30 and is connected to piston 32 adapted to work in a cylindrical well 33 in the casing. Water from the inlet 20 passes through a strainer 56 and regulating screw 36 into a chamber 45 surrounding the well and thence through a space between the top of the well and a detachable cover 38 into the piston chamber. The auxiliary valve 43 is guided to work in the chamber 45 and has a depending spindle 53 adapted to be engaged by pivoted catch members 52, 78 on a spring-pressed rod 48. The upper end of this rod has a head 89 adapted to be engaged by a similar head on a push-piece 46 mounted in a removable member so that the rod may be depressed to allow the catches to snap, under the influence of a spring 54, beneath the end of the rod and subsequently allow the spring 55 to lift the auxiliary valve against the action of a light spring 82<a>. The catches are successively released to permit the auxiliary and main valves to close by a cam 75 rotated by a turbine wheel 25 arranged in the main conduit and acting through two sets of worm gearing 62, 72. According to the Provisional Specification, the apparatus may be arranged to close the main valve against the inlet pressure.
