Tinning and coating by dipping; cleaning. - Apparatus for the manufacture of tin, terne, and the like metal-coated plates comprises a vertical tinning pot, a riser or catcher thereon, a conveyer located near the said riser, a regulator carried by the conveyer, and a branning machine, the continuous working of the various parts being effected by chain &c. transmission. The tinning pot a, Fig. 1, is provided with two reciprocating cradles a<1>, a<1> side by side, the reciprocating motion being imparted by shafts a<6>, b<2> through spur wheels b, b<1>, lever a<5>, and an eccentric a<3> mounted on a driving-shaft a<2>, the spur wheels enabling the cradle to move in opposite directions. The plates are fed alternately, bv hand or otherwise, on to the cradles when in their lowest position, and are then carried to the bottom rolls a' of the grease pot, from whence they pass to a catcher or riser, Fig. 5, which guides them on to a conveyer 3 consisting of side frames between which a series of horizontally disposed hexagonal or octagonal rotators d<1>, Fig. 7, are mounted. The conveyer carries the plates to a regulator or timer,. Fig. 7, constructed to prevent a plate passing to the branning machine before its proper time, the regulator being operated by a lever f<8> rocked by the branning machine. This machine consists of frames supporting two troughs g, g<5>, Fig. 9, rollers g<1>, g,<3>, g<4>, g<7> to carry the plates to and from one trough to the other, and brushes or skins g<2>, g<6>.
