Abstract

323,405. Cole, J. H. Feb. 15, 1929. Cleaning.-In a branner for removing grease from tin-plates the bran is agitated by two conveyer screws set transversely across the trough and arranged to feed the bran in opposite directions. The plates, fed from the tinning pot through rolls b, are guided by rails c to horizontal rolls e which pass them to feed rolls f of a branner trough a from which they are delivered obliquely by rolls g. Across the trough and close beneath the path of the plates are journaled two conveyer screws h<1>, h<2> of opposite pitch, rotated in the same direction, and so that thev assist the movement of the plates to the rolls g, by chain drive from sprocket wheels on the spindle of the rolls f. The bran is passed transversely across the trough by the screw h<1> and is returned in the opposite direction by the screw h<2>. The plane containing the axes of the screws is substantially parallel to the plane in which the plates move in the trough. The screw h<2> which is less deeply immersed in the bran is made of slightly longer pitch or rotated more quickly than the screw h<1>. In modifications, the screws may be similar in pitch but rotate in opposite directions, or one screw may have two portions of opposite pitch conveying the bran to the middle of the trough while the other has two portions of opposite pitch which convey the bran from the middle to the sides.
