Breech actions, drop-down barrel.- Relates to locking mechanism of the kind operated by a top lever having a socket head in which the vertical spindle for operating the under bolt is fixed, and consists (a) in forming the socket head 10 of plain cylindrical shape provided with a groove 22, Fig. 10, adapted to be engaged by a retaining screw, and (b) in a rotary top bolt. The top bolt is a ring 23, Figs. 4 and 8, which is lodged in an annular groove in the head 10 and has a locking lug 24 projecting through a notch 26, Fig. 10, in the wall of the groove so that the ring turns with the head 10. The lug 24 engages over the extension 6 of the barrel rib. The spindle 8 is secured in thesocket head 10 of the top lever 9 bv a square part 11 and a screw 12, and has at the bottom a lug 14 for operating the sliding bolt 7.
