Abstract

Vacuum tubes.-The electrodes of a thermionic valve are mounted and spaced on a frame, and enclosed in an envelope, preferably of silica, consisting of one or two end portions and a central cylindrical portion, which is secured by fusing to flanges on the end portions. As shown, the anode A is secured by molybdenum binding-wire and silica pieces C to silica, molybdenum, or other rods B, mounted on radial arms D, which carry the filament and hollow silica supports X for the grid, and are rigidly mounted at one end by means of a silica tube F fused to an end portion G, and at the other end are fixed to seali.ng-in tubes T, V for the filament leads. After the electrodes have been mounted on the frame, the central cylindrical portion K of the envelope is placed in position and fused to flanges M, L on the end portions G, H, which are of substantially non-re-entrant shape. In a modification, the central poition is made integral with one end portion, and is fused to flanges on the other end portion, and on a sealing-tube, the electrode frame being supported at one end only by the filament sealing-in tubes.
