Abstract

241,215. British Thomson-Houston Co., Ltd., (Assignees of Mullaney, D. A.). Oct. 9, 1924, [Convention date]. Filaments, supports for. - A body 10 of fused quartz has two members 11, 12 of molybdenum or other metal embedded in it; one for anchoring to a support and the other to the filament. The embedded ends of the metal pieces are notched or jagged to improve the mechanical connection. The member 12 may be connected to a hook 14 by means of a spring 13, or the spring may be placed between the hook and the filament. To embed the metal members in the quartz insulators, a number of metal pieces are spaced in an evacuated quartz tube, which is heated at spaced intervals until it collapses upon the metal, as described in Specification 18255/03 for connecting glass and metal.
