Abstract

149,076. Mullard, S. R. May 8, 1919. Vacuum tubes. - A thermionic valve has a cylindrical anode 14 mounted co-axially in a silica bulb by means of wires or rods 17, which are sealed within sleeves 18 fused to radial extensions 12 of silica rings 11 supporting the grid, and to the bulb. The grid consists of wire 4 wound around three wires 5 secured in hollow sleeves 8 fused to the rings 11. The filament cathode 2 is mounted in long narrow seals consisting of tubes 3, fused to the outer ends of other tubes 30, so as to permit of re-sealing after a filament has been replaced. The filament may be supported at the centre from a wire 22 secured to the tubes 3 by horns 26 and lacing 27. Expansion coils 24 may be connected to the filament and to the wire 22. According to the Provisional Specification, the anode may be supported at each end by three metal strips sprung outwards to engage in silica sleeves on the bulb.
