R÷ntgen-ray tubes; vacuum tubes.-An incandescent cathode consists of a wire 5 wound in the shape of a ring with zig-zag bends lying in a plane at rightangles to the direction of the electron stream. The wire is mounted in a focusing cylinder 1 around a central pin 3, to which one end of the wire is connected, the other end being connected through a hook 5 with the cylinder. At intermediate points the wire is mounted on insulated supports 6.
