Abstract
167,041. Higgins, C. L., Pritchard, D. A., and United Alkali Co., Ltd. June 7, 1920. Electrodes; preparing surfaces.-Graphite electrodes are impregnated with salts of iron, manganese, or both, before use, such as the chlorides or sulphates. The electrodes may be placed in a chamber from which air is exhausted. The metallic salt solution, which is preferably saturated, is then run in and forced into the graphite by admitting air. After draining and preferably drying, the electrodes may be treated so as to precipitate insoluble compounds such as ferrous or ferric hydrate or hydrated manganese dioxide in the pores and on the surface.
