Abstract
166,341. Sandberg, C. P., and Graham, A. J. W. April 12, 1920. Air-pressure sprayers.-A spray-producer more particularly for use in cooling steel in the process described in Specification 8258/15, [Class 72, Iron &c.], comprises an outwardly-coned orifice unconfined by any chamber surrounded by two sets of air jets, one set g at right-angles to the liquid jet and the other f at an acute angle thereto. The air jets f may be provided with guides by which the air is given a direction more or less tangential to the liquid. Fig. 1 shows a form comprising a nozzle a held in a chamber c by a screw cap b. The nozzle comprises a jet d surrounded by a tube e having an outwardly coned orifice in which are arranged the air jets f and g. Water is supplied through the passages h and compressed air through the passage i. Some air passes through ports k in the tube e, but the main issue is through the passages f, g. Instead of the tube e and annular space c around it, the passages i may be continued downward as shown in Fig. 4, and the whole of the compressed air directed through the passages g. Interchangeable nozzles a may be provided having the passages f at different angles in order that different areas may be covered by the spray.
