Abstract

577,357. Coating by spraying. AKTIEBOLAGET ECCOVERKEN. Nov. 1, 1943, No. 18056. Convention date, Oct. 31, 1942. [Class 69 (iii)] In spraying surfaces with paint, varnish, molten metal, &c., the shape of the crosssection of the issuing paint spray can be varied by suction induced by high velocity airstreams A suitably and adjustably directted. For example, the elliptical cross-section I, Fig. 3, of a paint spray issuing from a slot nozzle 10 can be elongated to the cross-section II by top and bottom streams of air issuing from between surfaces 11 and 13 and over a directing surface 12. In Fig. 1, the paint &c. is supplied through a conduit 2 and is sprayed through a slot or circle 10 by air or gas from a conduit 5. The spray-shaping air or gas from conduit 8 passes to a jet nozzle 7 and issues through openings between the surfaces 11, 12 and 13, the surfaces 11, 12 being axially movable in relation to 13 to vary the opening and spread of the air jets which effect the shape of the paint spray. The paint spray may also be shaped by variation of the pressure of the shaping air alone. The conduits are provided with pressure equalisers or strainers 6 and 9.
