Abstract
1,163,033. Spray-producers. S.K.V. SOC. ANON. 2 Jan., 1967 [6 Jan., 1966], No. 61/67. Heading B2F. A paint atomizing nozzle head comprises a central paint nozzle 2, a concentric annular passage for compressed air inducing paint flow, and lateral orifices for flattening the jet of atomized paint, the passages 10 leading to the lateral orifices being formed as open-sided grooves. The grooves 10 are formed on ears 14 on a substantially semi-spherical nozzle head 3 clamped to a spray gun body 1 by a retaining ring nut 4. The flattening jets enter the grooves 10 from an annular groove 9, the air following the contour of the nozzle head 3 by inducing a reduced pressure near the sufrace thereof and being consequently deflected along the entire length of the grooves. On leaving the grooves, deflection of the air ceases and the jets meet the paint jet at an angle governed by the shape of the nozzle head 3. The grooves 10 may be rectangular or triangular in cross section and may increase in width toward the outlet end. The nozzle head may be applied to electrostatic painting processes, an electrode 15 being provided concentric with the paint nozzle, or in a modification, Fig. 10 (not shown), the electrode (16) is carried externally by the nozzle head body. The nozzle head may be machined or moulded from metal or plastic material.
