Abstract

676,600. Spray-producers. AKTIEBOLAGET ATLAS DIESEL. Nov. 20, 1950 [Dec. 10, 1949], No. 28371/50. Class 69 (iii). A nozzle of the type having a central orifice for a paint-air jet of circular cross-section which is impinged by auxiliary air jets from orifices lying on opposite sides thereof, is characterized in that all the orifices are formed in a portion of the nozzle forming a front wall of a mixing chamber for air and paint in which a valve-controlled paint nozzle is provided with its opening a short distance behind the said wall, the paint-air jet being impinged by pairs of auxiliary air jets and/or by at least one pair of flattened auxiliary air jets. In Fig. 1 a valvecontrolled paint nozzle 1 is arranged within a mixing chamber 9 supplied with air from passages 10, and the paint-air jet issues from an orifice 8. A separate air supply from a valve-controlled passage 20 passes from a passage 21 to converging passages 13, 14 in the opposed horns 12. Air from the passage 13, 14 converge to form flattened jets 17 which impinge the main jet. In Fig. 3 air jets 29, 30, 33 converge to form an opposing pair of flattened jets 34 acting on the main jet, which is also impinged by converging jets 26. In a further embodiment, Fig. 5, the main jet is acted upon by pairs of converging jets 39, 42 and 45.
