Abstract

694,098. Spray-producers. FRASER, R. P. Nov. 10, 1950 [Nov. 11, 1949], No. 28991/49. Class 69(iii) [Also in Group XI] A gas atomizing device comprises a nozzle having a nozzle piece which ejects a liquid sheet of fan formation, and a similar nozzle or nozzles which eject a sheet or sheets of gaseous medium alongside a side face or each side face of the liquid sheet, each nozzle being of the double orifice oppo:ed stream type, or of the single orifice fanspray type. In the latter type the fluid approaching the outlet orifice is channelled into the form of opposed streams. Liquid fuel is admitted to a spray nozzle 1 at 6, and passes along a passage 5 and leaves a slot-shaped outlet in a nozzle 7, whereupon it is surrounded on both sides by gas jets which, together with the liquid, are ejected from a slot shaped outlet 12 in an outer nozzle piece 2. The gas, e.g. air, is admitted through inlets 9 to two passages leading to a chamber 10, and opposed air streams, passing along a diametral channel 16, impinge to form a " bats-wing " shape on leaving the nozzle piece 2. The walls of a channel 15 in the front of the nozzle 2 and at right angles to the channel 16 flank the spray. stream. The nozzle 7 is channelled similarly to the nozzle piece 2. Alternatively, Fig. 6, separate nozzles 7, 17 emit liquid and gas respectively of bats-wing shape; if required only one gas nozzle .17 need be used.
