Cutting slices in succession; boards for handcutting.-The apparatus consists of a base board 1, having its inner end bevelled and provided with a knife 10, longitudinal guides 2 which project beyond and are dovetailed to the base board 1, and a bottomless slide box 4 which contains the vegetables and is provided with grooves which slidable engage the guides 2. The slice thickness is regulated by a bottom member 14, the inner end of which is vertically movable by screws 18 and carries a slitting-comb 24 which cuts the vegetables vertically immediately previous to the horizontal slicing action of the knife 10. The outer end of the member 14 is secured by countersunk screws to a cross-bar 15, the countersunk holes being sufficiently large to permit of the pivotal movement consequent on adjusting the other end. The screws 18 are threaded in a cross member 19 and project through holes in angle-plates 21 attached to the member 14, the screws being reduced to pass through the holes and being provided with internal countersunk heads, so that positive adjustment of the member 14 in both directions is assured. Various forms of slitting-combs may be used, all being adapted to fit between the angle-plates 21 and the member 14.
