Abstract

161,658. Willoughby, N. D. Jan. 10, 1920. Spring devices. - A spring fork for a steering- wheel b, Fig. 1, has lugs c pivoting about a spindle d in a crown bearing at the bottom of the steering-tube f. A combined tension and compression spring g has one end fixed to a cross-bar a' in the fork, and the other end fixed to a head clip i on the steering-tube f. Another form has the spring fixed to the top k of the fork and to a clip at the bottom of the steering-tube. The spring device may comprise two separate springs l, m, Fig. 7, in a cup-like fitting p. The spring m surrounds a plunger o slidable in the fitting p. The spring l takes the weight and the spring m the recoil. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 25924/12 and 111,129.
