Abstract

163,504. Short, H. T. Feb. 25, 1920. Spring devices.-In spring forks for cycles, motor-cycles, &c., wherein the fork and steering- column are connected by two sets of links pivoted at the ends to these parts respectively, the motion is controlled by one or more springs connected at their ends to the oppositely disposed sets of links. As shown in Fig. 1, the upper and lower links b, c, arranged within the fork limbs a<1>, are connected by a pair of tension springs h, holes i providing for the adjustment of the connections. The two links b and the two links c are preferably interconnected by cross-members d to which the springs are secured. The springs may be arranged to act in compression, and springs arranged in one or more casings may also be employed. As shown in Fig. 4, main and rebound springs o, p are enclosed in a telescopic casing l, n and separated by a piston k<3>; or a casing comprising two parts adjustably screwed together may contain a spring arranged about a guide-rod which passes through one part and carries an end abutment for the spring. According to the Provisional Specification, the connections of the springs may be at or near the pivotal connections of the links to the fork and head respectively.
