Abstract
327,631. Sansburn, A. W. June 4, 1929. Buffers.-A springing-device interposed between the axle and the frame of a motor-truck comprises a number of telescopically arranged tapered cups, 2, 3, 4 movable one within the other and separated by helical springs 14, 13, 12 of varying strength which bear on the upper and lower flanges 7, 6 of the cups. Supported in the upper cup 4 by a spring 11 is a plunger 8 on which is mounted a head 10 through which the load is transmitted to the springs 12, 13, 14. As the load' increases, the flanges 7 on adjacent cups engage in succession and the corresponding springs are rendered inoperative. On maximum load, all the flanges 7 all in contact, only the stiff spring 14 being in action. In a modification the stiff spring 14 is replaced by two springs, each carrying half the load.
