Abstract
195,880. Laforge, P. May 9, 1922. Vibration - chambers. - A shock - absorber, particularly for use on motor vehicles, comprises a wedge interposed between the stationary inclined surface of a piece 3 in a casing 1, shown secured to the vehicle axle 2, and the longitudinal face 5<a> of a slide 5 movable in the casing, the frictional action of the wedge 4 upon the slide 5 exceeding that upon the surface of the piece 3 by the faces 4<a>, 5<a> of the wedge and slide being covered with leather &c. The slide is shown secured by a rod 5<b> to the chassis frame 6, but the casing may be secured to the chassis and the slide to the axle. Downward movement of the slide can take place freely, the wedge moving downwards against the action of a spring 7, while upward movement of the slide is resisted to an increasing degree on account of the wedge action.
