Abstract

161,248. Wood, W. A. Dec. 31, 1919. Tubular and like constructions; frame components, applying and combining.-A unitary frame for a motor cycle and sidecar comprises two substantially vertical transverse members, the rear one of which is extended laterally and rearwardlv in the form of a box-shaped frame. In the illustrated form the transverse members 1, 6 are formed of stamped sheet metal, and the member 6, which carries the steering-head bracket and is curved outwardly at 15 to support the body of the side-car, is formed also with openings 14 to allow air to pass through to cool the engine. The rear member carries the seat 2 and is perforated at 13 to allow the driving-belt to pass therethrough. The two plates are connected by longitudinal tie-rods 3, 8, some of which extend beyond the rear plate to the limit of the boxshaped frame. A pair of inclined tie-rods 8<a> also connect the top of the front plate to the bottom of the rear plate. The box-shaped frame includes members 1<a>, 4 serving to support the rear end of the bodv of the side-car, a lower rear member 5<a> suspended from the rear axle, and tapering stiffening-ribs 5.
