Abstract

Oct. 17, 1919, Hand-grip sliding-jaw wrenches. -Relates to wrenches of the type comprising a fixed jaw C integral with one handle or grip, and a sliding jaw J housed within the fixed jaw and actuated by a projection A on the end of the other pivoted handle engaging a recess B in the sliding jaw. As shown in Fig. 4, the housing of the fixed jaw is shaped with a radius E smaller than the radius F of the sliding jaw, or these parts are otherwise suitably shaped as by tapering, so that the back pressure on the jaws when the nut is turned causes the sliding jaw to wedge in its guide, thereby locking it.
